Toolkit for Performance Artists

As part of my Research and Development I have decided to start a toolkit for Artists.

I shall share insights and task based activities which may inspire your practise and will allow me to record my findings from mentoring.

It will be an online workshop for sharing!

No idea is an new idea so lets share them all!!.... However you present your work, it will be your individual spin on it that makes it special!...

Happy Sharing..

18th May- Friday

This morning whilst sitting outside on the grass...the sun shinning bright I absent mindedly started thinking about gardening. I love being outside in my garden, it helps me think of ideas or rather not think consiously. Just being in the present moment and letting the ideas pop up from my subconsious....
This is where creativity comes from. Learning to be in the flow and play is great and Im starting to notice the enviroments or situations that neurture creative thoughts. I am drawing up a table to remind me if I feel unmotivated and felt it was relevent as part of the toolkit for you too.

Location/ Action

In my garden- Weeding, sitting on grass, watching my cats

On a train- Writing in my journel

Walking down a quiet street that you have never been down- Taking in my dictaphone about my day/ thoughts, listening to my dictaphone, re-recording my thoughts based on previous rambelings

Lying on your back in a quiet room- Listening to music- wild bees walking on our tongues

In living room on sofa- Knitting

....... I shall keep adding to this list!.....

 TASK

  • Create a task in the style of your favourite artist- Art Heros idea was inspired origonally by Other/Other/Other discussion. Just as musicians play cover songs to use for practise, so can performers use a piece of work to help generate practical ideas. For example: I would like to re-create a work in the style of Gillian Wearing and explore dubbing over style of film but live on stage!....
TASK

  • Move around the space and get someone to shout out words. Respond to them in movement. Respond to them in sound. respond to them in words.
TASK

  • Perform a simple action once
  • Record it on camera
  • watch it back, what was the best bit?
  • Repeat action exagerating the best bit.
  • Develop action by repeating it many times and record this.
  • What does it say about the person? Is there a story?..
